Susan Allan actively seeks and maintains relationships with local, regional, and national organizations to improve NWCPHP’s offerings and to ensure continual relevance to the practice community. She is involved in training, research, evaluation, and communication activities.

  • Planning and advocacy for public health workforce training and development
  • Public health emergency preparedness
  • Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and immigrant populations
  • Public health systems and services research
  • Accreditation of schools and programs of public health
  • Public health law

Susan leads NWCPHP efforts relating to public health law and NWCPHP's Public Health Management Certificate. She also serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for many NWCPHP-housed projects.

Susan served as NWCPHP’s Director from 2008–2013 and is Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Health Services in the University of Washington School of Public Health. Throughout her career she has been involved with national and regional activities to advance public health education and to advocate for the development of an evidence-base for public health practice.

Her education includes: MD from Harvard Medical School, JD from Harvard Law School, and MPH from Johns Hopkins. She is board certified in Preventive Medicine/General Public Health, and is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
