Janet Baseman is NWCPHP faculty and is a member of the NWCPHP research team. She leads several applied epidemiology projects in collaboration with governmental public health agencies (local, state, and federal). She serves as Co-Director of the Washington State Food Safety Center of Excellence and currently works on efforts in Washington state to modernize public health disease surveillance and data systems. 

Janet is a Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health at the University of Washington School of Public Health. Since 2015, she has directed the UW SEAL Program which is designed to train graduate students in the School of Public Health in applied epidemiology and to provide opportunities for on-the-ground response to real-time public health threats alongside public health agency partners. 

She received her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Texas Houston and her Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Washington.
