Randy Beaton Helps Develop Preparedness and Response Core Competencies

NWCPHP faculty member Randy Beaton recently returned from a Core Competency Development Workgroup meeting in Atlanta, Georgia focused on public health preparedness and response.

Dr. Beaton was asked to participate in the small workgroup meeting around intervention from February 2-3, developing core competencies that will serve as a national standard and will guide training for mid-level public health workers when they are completed. The projected completion date for these competencies is December of 2010.

This competency set will also be utilized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Centers for Public Health Preparedness throughout the country beginning in 2010.

This workgroup meeting was held at the Emory Conference Center and was sponsored by the CDC and the Association of Schools of Public Health.
