NWCPHP will work with national leaders in public health law to develop new training programs through this grant, said Susan Allan, MD, JD, MPH, Director of NWCPHP. The funds will be used for developing consultation and coaching for trainers; tools and guidelines for developing and delivering trainings; and three online training modules on priority topics.

The new training programs will strengthen the ability of public health professionals and the attorneys who work with them to develop and implement laws and policies that improve the health of the public.

“We can dramatically increase the use of law as a tool to improve the public’s health,” said Allan. “We look forward to this partnership to create trainings that are developed and delivered based on real needs within the public health law community.”

The role of NWCPHP will be to help ensure that the knowledge and experience of public health law experts throughout the country is captured and shared with the broader public health law and practice communities. NWCPHP will work closely with RWJF and other organizations, including the Network for Public Health Law, to develop the new training programs.

NWCPHP has more than 20 years of experience developing and providing practical training for the public health community and welcomes the collaborative opportunities that come with this new funding.

“We are glad that public health law has been recognized as a priority,” said Allan. “Working together, we can strengthen the development of laws and policies that improve the health of the public.”
