NWCPHP is eager to welcome the inaugural class of the year-long Public Health Management Certificate program. On August 22–25, the cohort of 15 will arrive for four days of on-site instruction to kick off the year-long program.

While most public health professionals are trained in a specific public health discipline, few receive training in management. Based on the results of a 2010 workforce development survey conducted in its six-state region (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming), NWCPHP designed a distance-based program for working professionals.

The Public Health Management Certificate will enable public health practitioners currently in a management position, or those preparing to transition into management, to more effectively manage people, resources, and information. Stronger management means improved public health services and, ultimately, healthier communities.

The initial on-site session will be followed by 12 months of distance-based courses taught through webinars, online modules, discussion boards, and conference calls. NWCPHP has brought together a dynamic team of multidisciplinary faculty from around the country and Canada to deliver the core and elective courses. The faculty will also offer guidance to the scholars on integrated projects designed for the scholars' current work settings.

This first year of the Public Health Management Certificate would not be possible without the generosity of the de Beaumont Foundation. For more information, visit the Public Health Management Certificate website.
