In July, the CDC Learning Connection showcased a course from NWCPHP’s popular epidemiology series as one of its featured learning opportunities. This month, NWCPHP will continue partnering with CDC to offer another high-quality, relevant learning opportunity to a national and international audience: Legal Aspects of Public Health Food Safety.

Keeping the public’s food supply safe and investigating foodborne outbreaks are key functions of public health agencies. But even public health professionals who work in food safety may not be aware of the unique legal issues relating to food safety surveillance and investigation. This course can help answer questions about how to navigate federal privacy requirements, exactly what authority public health officials have to investigate and respond to outbreaks, and what public health agencies can do to identify and avoid common legal challenges in food safety work.

Thanks to the CDC Learning Connection, a new audience of public health professionals—from frontline staff working in food safety to managers and leaders—can now gain valuable knowledge to help most effectively protect the public's health.

Legal Aspects of Public Health Food Safety is a one-hour, no-cost online course created by NWCPHP in partnership with the Network for Public Health Law.
