Health departments across the country are concerned about how to best prepare their workforce in the wake of changing roles, budget cuts, job eliminations, and a wave of retiring workers. In the July session of Hot Topics in Practice, representatives from Montana’s public health system discuss the policy, administrative, and human resource techniques they are employing to strengthen their statewide system.

Lindsey Krywaruchka, BSBA, leads off the session by explaining the state’s efforts to create a standardized workforce assessment tool and to identify competency areas for improvement. She will share national resources for developing the tool and key results. Danielle Golie, RN, CLC, will discuss how her local health department is rewriting job descriptions to ensure a focus on population health and quality improvement are primary roles for every employee.
