Have you ever been asked to prove the value of your program or wondered whether your work made a difference? Ever held a staff training and wondered if it led to improvements? NWCPHP’s evaluation team can help your agency answer these types of questions and take your organizational performance to the next level.

Associate Director, Luann D’Ambrosio leads the evaluation team. She says, “We like the challenge of answering tough questions. Because we understand the public health system, we are able to offer rigorous evaluations of its related programs and activities.”

Evaluation consultation

The NWCPHP evaluation team has worked with public health agencies since 2001, providing consultation in the following areas: program evaluation; training needs assessment; performance measurement; conference evaluation; and review of in-house trainings and exercises.

D’Ambrosio says, “We are very nimble. Our agility allows us to work on both small and large evaluation projects.”

Recent large projects include a program evaluation of the national public health improvement initiative in eight Washington health jurisdictions and an evaluation of six public health law toolkits developed by the National Association of County and City Health Officials.

In early 2013, the team conducted a six-state training needs assessment, identifying the training needs and interests of over 2,000 regional public health practitioners. Team members spent the second half of the year disseminating the survey results and providing individual consultation to partner agencies.

Smaller projects include the evaluation of a tabletop exercise regarding water sanitation on the Oregon coast, the review of a bi-annual public health law conference, and an assessment of a community campaign to prevent whooping cough.

Customized products

The NWCPHP evaluation team can build customized evaluation tools for your individual assessment needs. The evaluation instruments are developed using best practices in survey design and other methodologies, and capitalize on extensive experience.

Evaluation training

If you’re looking for staff training on evaluation practices, NWCPHP offers a 3½ day course at the annual Summer Institute for Public Health Practice. Participants will learn what questions to ask of themselves and their programs, as well as the tools for collecting data and assessing stakeholders.

Whatever your evaluation needs, NWCPHP can help you ask and answer the tough questions, make informed decisions, and assure the continuous improvement of your organization’s capabilities.
