At the 2015 American Public Health Association (APHA) annual meeting, NWCPHP faculty member, Bud Nicola, MD, MHSA, FACPM, was honored with the Excellence in Health Administration Award. The award recognizes exceptional and sustained achievement in public health administration and is given to individuals who demonstrate creativity, innovation, and leadership to advance the field. Recipients are honored for their ability to advance knowledge, motivate others, and significantly impact practice through science, research, teaching, or writing.

"It has been a delight to work with a dedicated group of leaders and managers in APHA's Health Administration Section over my 40 years with the association," said Nicola. "Together, we worked on several projects, including special issues of the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice including an issue on implementing the Affordable Care Act and the role of public health."

Nicola continued: "I am honored to receive this award and thankful to the efforts and camaraderie of section members in working together to improve the health of populations. It is a privilege to be able to work in this field where we have such an opportunity to make lives better."

Currently, Nicola serves as director of the Northwest Public Health Leadership Institute and mentor for the Public Health Management Certificate. He is also an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington School of Public Health in the Department of Health Services.
