Epidemiology: Intermediate builds on the more experienced participant's understanding of basic epidemiologic principles. The course is designed for public health nurses, epidemiologists, program managers, emergency preparedness planners, health educators and others. Instruction covers measures of risk, epidemiologic bias, statistics, and study types along with interactive discussions and exercises that highlight relevant examples from public health practice.

Objectives

  1. Describe two measures of risk.
  2. Define confounding and identify two other measures of epidemiologic bias.
  3. Describe three types of study design.
  4. List 3-5 concepts in intermediate epidemiology that could influence responses to global climate change, new built environments, and communicable disease issues and describe the possible nature of those effects.
