Epidemiology: Basic provides an introduction to epidemiology for practitioners who have limited training and experience in the field, including those in public health nursing, environmental health, emergency preparedness, disease surveillance, program management and related areas. Learn concepts, methods, and terminology with a focus on outbreak investigations, community surveillance, and causal associations.

Objectives

  • Identify and compare the strengths and weaknesses of community surveillance.
  • Describe the various steps in the investigation of a disease outbreak.
  • Learn epidemiologic methods used in preparedness and response to emergency events, either of a natural or terrorist nature.
  • List and describe the criteria used to infer causal associations.
