Description

Cigarette smoking is the cause of 1 out of every 5 deaths annually in the United States. In 2009, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act was signed into law giving the FDA authority to regulate tobacco products. In this one hour webinar, which is part of the Hot Topics series, Sarah Ross-Viles, MPH discusses current tobacco regulation including the 2009 Act and how Public Health - Seattle & King County has responded. She also covers opportunities at the local level for complementing these regulations.

Presenter

Sarah Ross-Viles, MPH, manages the Tobacco Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) Grant of Public Health-Seattle & King County. She is a graduate of the Community Oriented Public Health Practice graduate program at the University of Washington where she was a tobacco studies scholar. Sarah's projects at Public Health prior to CPPW include supporting affordable housing providers in adopting smoke-free policies and developing the implementation of the Smoking in Public Places code.
