Northwest Public Health Leadership Institute 2009
Overview |
|
“I was appointed to the State of Idaho Governors Roundtable on Obesity and Exercise, because that was my project during the Leadership Institute…to get Idaho moving on the obesity problem. I was elected to the Idaho State Board of Medicine licensing division for dietitians. I attribute this to my reputation as being a fair person and a good negotiator…skills that I honed during my leadership experience.”

Changing times demand innovative leadership. The 2009 Northwest Public Health Leadership Institute (NWPHLI) aims to strengthen the leadership capacity of the public health workforce in the Northwest. Participants engage in a year-long experience to develop stronger, more strategic leadership techniques through in-depth exploration of collaborative skills, communication style, and their own personal creativity potential. Graduates of the program have stronger skills and commitment, making them more effective leaders in their organizations and communities.
NWPHLI achieves this goal of strengthening leadership capacity by developing participants’ competencies in:
- Working with external partners
- Leading teams with limited resources
- Working with legislators
- Preparing for the unpredictable
- Becoming a champion of health equity
- And more…
