Healthy Places Research Group

Intended Audience

These trainings are appropriate for all public health workers in state, local, or tribal health agencies, public health and planning faculty, researchers, students, practitioners, and others interested in exploring the relationship between the built environment and the health of communities.

Training Description

This group meets once per month from September to June in Seattle, Washington. Each meeting begins with a presentation about a particular aspect of the built environment and the health of communities, followed by open discussion. Objectives

These trainings allow participants to:

  • Discuss the evolution and context of the built environment on working toward healthy communities
  • Discuss public health's role in planning and advocating for evidence-based approaches
  • Evaluate organizational strategic plans, policy, and protocols
  • Analyze evolving research related to public health outcomes and the built environment
  • Identify key relationships and foster partnerships across related stakeholder organizations and agencies

Format

Training is offered in discussion format, held each month on the University of Washington campus in Seattle, Washington. Participants are encouraged to discuss their own experiences and ask questions of the presenters and other participants throughout the course.

Estimated Time to Complete

These trainings are typically held on a Thursday from 3:30–5:00 p.m. (Pacific). Occasionally, the schedule must shift to meet the needs of a presenter.
