Using Tabletop Exercises

Presenter

Carl Osaki, RS, MSPH has extensive experience designing and facilitating tabletop exercises. He is a faculty member with the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice and a Clinical Associate Professor of Environmental Health, SPHCM, where he teaches Environmental Health Practice. He is also a member of the Washington State Board of Health and former Chief of Environmental Health at Public Health - Seattle & King County. Mr. Osaki is a principal investigator for the CDC-funded Regional Academic Environmental Public Health Center.

Description

This online, interactive presentation focuses on how to facilitate and design tabletop exercises. The presentation will discuss the purpose and objectives of tabletops, how to modify them for different target audiences and issues that frequently arise when facilitating or designing a tabletop exercise. It will also help participants determine whether their agency is ready to conduct a tabletop exercise.

  1. Describe the value and use of tabletop exercises to prepare for public health emergencies
  2. List 10 suggestions for conducting or facilitating a successful tabletop exercise
  3. Discuss how to evaluate their agency's readiness for conducting a tabletop exercise
