Collaborative Drug Therapy Agreement (CDTA) for Influenza Antivirals in Washington State

A team from the Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA), NWCPHP, and PHSKC developed a template Collaborative Drug Therapy Agreement (CDTA) for Influenza Antiviral Medications under a contract with WA State DOH, supported via CDC pandemic preparedness funds. The product of this collaboration is available here, for use by local health officers and by individual authorized prescribers to allow pharmacists to prescribe antiviral medications in case of an influenza outbreak. Although the Collaborative Drug Therapy Agreement may be entered into at any time and submitted to the Washington State Board of Pharmacy, the protocol is intended only to go into effect when authorized by local health officers. The guidance provided here will be updated frequently during an outbreak, so it is important for pharmacists to check these Web sites often for updates:

Collaborative Drug Therapy Agreement
This CDTA is for use by local health officers or by authorized prescribers and pharmacists to enter into an agreement to allow pharmacists to prescribe and dispense antiviral medications for influenza, in case of an outbreak.

Training Materials for Pharmacists

Flu CDTA Training Presentation
This training module must be viewed by pharmacists before they begin prescribing and dispensing antiviral medications for influenza. The slides may also be printed out and kept as a reference in the pharmacy.

Self-Assessment Quiz
The self-assessment quiz should be completed by pharmacists after viewing the training module. It may be submitted to WSPA by FAX for one (1) hour of Continuing Education credit (0.1 CEU).
