Disasters and environmental health events present unique challenges for nurses. This conference uses real-world events to identify "lessons learned" in preparedness and response and considers implications for nurses across practice settings. Content addresses competency-based skills for assessing and responding safely and effectively to disaster events. Special attention is given to health care facility and community preparation and response, needs of vulnerable populations, co-occurring psychosocial sequelae, and the interconnectedness of disaster and environmental health issues for nurses. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion and case studies.
For all registered nurses who wish to incorporate disaster response and environmental health principles into current practice settings including acute care, long term care, public health, community health, ambulatory care, school health, military health, and other health care settings.
