Free Online Training in Maternal & Child Health
June 30, 2010
The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice has recently posted two graduate-level training sessions aimed at professionals who work with at-risk maternal and child populations in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington (Region 10 of the Health Resources and Services Administration).
The series is supported by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau. This training will help states achieve maternal and child health (MCH) national performance measures under Title V. To ensure the relevance of the series, topics are identified by state public health personnel. Faculty members of the University of Washington’s Maternal and Child Public Health Leadership Training Program conduct the training sessions.
The one-hour training sessions posted on nwcphp.org were initially conducted online, using iLinc Web conferencing software. To view the archived trainings, you will need the latest version of Flash player, which can be downloaded at our software and plug-ins page.
The first session, Teen Suicide: Strategies for Prevention, is taught by Melissa Schiff, MD, MPH, a professor in the UW Department of Epidemiology. The second session, Early Childhood Oral Health, is taught by Julia Richman, DDS, MSD, MPH, a practicing dentist who completed her Master of Public Health practicum at Skagit/Island County Head Start.
