In recent years, public health has increasingly focused on initiatives to support people in making healthier choices for behaviors, such as exercise and eating, that affect health.
On March 12, 2008, the King County Board of Health in Washington State adopted a menu labeling regulation that requires restaurants with 15 or more national locations to display nutritional information at the point of purchase. There is now a proposal before King County to modify this legislation for consistency with the national statute for nutritional labeling.
On Wednesday, May 19, 2010, the Public Health Law Association will hold a virtual seminar looking at nutritional labeling legislation in King County. The 30-minute presentation will include three speakers, Dennis Worsham, Regional Health Officer at Public Health - Seattle & King County Health Department; Amy Eiden, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office; and Christina Roberto at the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University.
The presentation will be moderated by Susan Allan, Director of the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice and Associate Professor in the Department of Health services at the University of Washington.
The seminar is one of a monthly series and is free and open to Public Health Law Association members and other interested persons.
Please email Jalayne Arias, JD (jjarias@asu.edu) by Tuesday, May 18, to register for the teleconference. Additional information is available at http://phla.info.
