Training Needs
NWCPHP provides technical assistance and resources to our Northwest public health partners for the development and implementation of public health training plans. The training plans, typically agency-wide, focus on the curriculum level. Many of these efforts emphasize preparedness and emergency response skills, but most training plans also include development of core public health skills. We have used our Emergency Preparedness Training Needs Assessment instrument to define key areas of training needs for these plans.
Training Needs Assessment 2010
NWCPHP is in the process of conducting a regional training needs assessment. In order to help health departments maximize staff time and budgets, NWCPHP is working with Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming to identify the topics where training is most needed and would yield the greatest results. NWCPHP anticipates being in the field with the evaluation instrument in January of 2010.
Training Plan Template for Thurston County
In 2003, the Center assisted in the development of a training plan template for Thurston County (Washington) Health Department as part of the health department's work as a Project Public Health Ready pilot site. The training plan template and sample appendices are resources for identifying key components of an effective training plan.

Needs Assessment for Emergency Preparedness Training
In 2011, NWCPHP collaborated with the Washington State Department of Health to survey the training needs, interests, and modality preferences of their public health workforce. The instrument assessed current confident levels and training needs in public health emergencies and included questions on delivery preferences, barriers to training, and priority general workforce development topics areas.
