Even in an era of reduced resources, public health has a leading role to play in communities across our region. This is the message of the most recent issue of Northwest Public Health. Focusing on the six-state region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, Northwest Public Health is a resource to those who have taken on the challenging work of improving the health of communities in today’s complex environment.

Articles in the current issue discuss ways that public health professionals and organizations can influence policy decisions. Other articles advocate for new ways that public health can effectively address chronic illness and mental health. We also feature interviews with three leaders from our region who have gained national prominence.

Northwest Public Health is published with funding from the UW School of Public Health. It is available online, and we invite you to take our survey while visiting the site. Print copies of the journal can also be ordered at no cost from nph@u.washington.edu.
