One week left to register for the 2011 Summer Institute!

The Summer Institute for Public Health Practice will run from August 8–12. It's a week filled with quality courses and dynamic plenary speakers.

This is an opportunity to learn practical skills you can use every day as you work to improve the public's health. Participants have the opportunity to engage colleagues and leaders about pressing public health topics throughout the week, and everyone is invited to a Monday evening reception.

The Summer Institute for Public Health Practice will run from August 8–12. It's a week filled with quality courses and dynamic plenary speakers. It is sponsored by the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice in the University of Washington's School of Public Health.

Registration for the 20th annual Summer Institute for Public Health Practice closes on August 1st, but there's still time to register as an individual or as a group of three or more and save 20% off the regular registration price.

All participants attend top-notch plenary sessions during the morning and then divide into separate courses depending on their chosen area of focus for the week:

  • Health Communication
  • Implementing Program Planning & Evaluation
  • Understanding Data & Measuring Health Outcomes

Professional Development Awards Available

Do you want to register for the NWCPHP Summer Institute for Public Health Practice, but are limited by budget constraints? The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) of the Pacific Northwest Region is currently offering Professional Development Awards of up to $1,000.

The NN/LM is focusing these awards on Resource Sharing, Information Science, and Public Health Practice. Their goal in offering them is to expand knowledge and experience among public health professionals to improve the information they provide to health care professionals and consumers. The NWCPHP Summer Institute for Public Health Practice is one of the events eligible for funding with this award.

Applicants must demonstrate how attending the Summer Institute will help achieve the specific goals of the applicant’s institution. Eligibility is open to any NN/LM member of the Pacific Northwest Region (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington). Membership is free and open to institutions that provide health information.

 

Plenary Sessions Open to the Public

Come one, come all! Don't miss this opportunity to engage with national leaders about the latest issues in public health practice.

To celebrate the 20th annual Summer Institute for Public Health Practice (August 8–12, 2011), conference the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice has opened the plenary sessions to the general public.

Please join us as these experts share their valuable experiences and in-depth knowledge of current trends and innovative strategies in the field. You will return to work inspired with new ideas to improve the health of your community.

  • Monday, Aug. 8: Lawrence Wallack, DrPh, MPH, will discuss using mass media to advance public health.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 9: Linda Murray, MD, MPH, will address health equity, social justice, and the medically underserved.
  • Thursday, Aug. 11: Les Beitsch, MD, MPH, will speak about public health transformation: evolution or revolution?
  • Friday, Aug. 12: Panel Discussion with Health Directors, including Kathleen O'Leary, Steve Scanlin, Mary Selecky, and Crystal Tetrick.

All plenary sessions are free and open to the public. They will be held in William H. Gates Hall on the University of Washington Seattle campus.
