Looking to get the most out of your training budget? NWCPHP offers special group discount rates for all of our institute and certificate programs. Organizations that send three or more people will receive a special group rate, with additional savings if teams sign up before June 30, 2013.

The benefits of attending as a group extend far beyond discounted rates. Supervisors are able to cross-train teams or send a cohort to advance a specific work project as part of our programs' integrated curriculum.

Last year, Grant County Health District Administrator Jeff Ketchel looked to expand the leadership skills of staff from three different health district programs: Community Public Health, Environmental Health, and Healthy Communities. He sent Theresa Adkinson, Todd Phillips, and Shawta Sackett to attend the 2012–13 Northwest Public Health Leadership Institute as a group—a move that contributed to both individual and organization-wide growth.

"The Leadership Institute enabled us to not only focus on how our programs can collaborate but also gave us time to work on our own professional development, something we don't often get to do in public health," says Theresa Adkinson, Healthy Communities Coordinator and Public Information Officer for the Grant County Health District.

The three developed stronger leadership skills and a joint "staffing integration project" designed to bridge staff separated by location and program. Work done during the Leadership Institute directly translated to on-the-job activities and initiatives.

"Our project was very ambitious and will continue throughout the next year," explains Theresa. "We will continue to expand our staff's knowledge of systems thinking and develop the leadership skills of all of our Health District staff. Jeff, Todd, Shawta, and I will meet on a quarterly basis to touch base on the cross program teams, leadership struggles and problem solving, and next steps in health district staff development."
