The events of 9/11 changed how individuals and institutions in the United States think about and prepare for emergencies.

Now in its tenth year, National Preparedness Month, held every September, kicks off a nation-wide effort to educate communities and businesses on ways to be prepared for any disaster. For public health practitioners, much time is spent reminding individuals to get a disaster kit, make a plan, be informed, and be involved.

Along with these efforts, public health employees have an additional directive: get trained. For public health, the attacks of 9/11 exposed a need for more emergency preparedness skills and rapid information sharing.

More recent events such as the Boston Marathon Bombings and natural disasters such as the Rim Wildfire, remind public health how vital and relevant emergency planning and response continues to be.

NWCPHP has developed and delivered trainings on emergency preparedness for more than a decade. This September, make sure your agency is disaster-ready.
