Return On Investment LogoOn November 19, 2010, public health professionals from around Washington gathered in Tumwater for NWCPHP's first training about return on investment. Thirty-three participants signed up, representing 15 local health jurisdictions and the Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH).

The demand for economic analysis of public health programs is growing as funding decisions become increasingly bottom-line oriented. Public health professionals are being forced to justify public health expenditures based on return on investment, cost-benefit analysis, or social return on investment. That's exactly what this course aims to teach.

The course was taught by University of Washington clinical faculty, Wendy Baesler, MACC. The learning objectives were designed to meet the needs identified by the participants and address the core competencies from the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice:

  • Describe how cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, and cost-utility analyses affect programmatic prioritization and decision making
  • Use cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, and cost-utility analyses in programmatic prioritization and decision making.

Due to the importance and success of this ROI course, NWCPHP has added it to its catalog of available trainings. For more information about the course, please visit NWCPHP's training page.
